CLT Couples

Love Is Love

and there’s not any ONE face

that you can assign to it…

In Fall 2014, documentary photographer, Erin Dunn, began photographing couples and families within Charlotte’s LGBTQ community for the nationwide ‘Love Is Love’ Project. Her mission was to build a collage of pictures that depict our beautifully diverse relationships for inclusion in the national series, and to display them here locally in our community center.

As the Community Center regroups, Erin is continuing her work here on this website. Each month we will introduce you to a local couple or family and they will be featured in our 2017 calendar. (Previously photographed couples will be displayed in our archives later this summer.)

Meet the Family

Happy 2016!

Celebrating Charlotte Couples

2015 was filled with many new and excited experiences for Visit Gay Charlotte. We launched seven new pages on this website, and we have had the pleasure of meeting dozens of beautiful Charlotte couples. As we begin this new year, we want to extend another offer to the community for an opportunity to become a featured couple! Whether you are in a new relationship or have been soulmates for years, we would love to highlight you!

Documentary Photographer, Erin Dunn, will meet you in a Charlotte location of your choosing and complete a photo shoot and short interview. All photos taken are yours to keep as our gift to you for your participation. Please email [email protected] to express your interest in being selected, to nominate a couple that you would like to see featured, or for questions about Love Is Love.

Thank you in advance to KiKi and Katrina, who will be our first featured couple on this page in 2016. Stay tuned for our upcoming February issue. And thank you, again, to all of our 2015 couples!

*Note from the Photographer: All families and couples are encouraged to upload photos on social media, via Instagram and Twitter, using the #loveisloveclt.

Thank you to all of the families who have already agreed to be photographed and interviewed for this new season. For more information about Love Is Love, or if you would like your family to be included in this series, please contact: [email protected].

Question of the Month

Each month we will feature a Question of the Month for couples to answer. All couples who submit a response and are posted here on our page will be entered to win a Date Night Prize Package. Our February question is:

What is your idea of a “perfect gift” for Valentine’s Day… one that you cannot purchase in any store?

Submit all responses to [email protected] along with both names and email addresses of the couple. Use “date night” in the subject line. All responses are due by January 31st.

This Month's Question

Do you have a New Year's Resolution that directly relates to your partner?

§ Terri: Ask him about his day and stop complaining about the job that I do not like.

Kyle: Offer to learn how to cook more things instead of eating out so much.

§ Dana: Clear up my schedule more. I have to make time for her because she is important to me.

Leigh: Dana has a busy schedule and there are times that I can be more understanding of her feeling tired or wanting to stay home instead of going out.

VGC staff suggestions for a different “twist” on date night…

Suggestion 1: Why not attempt a wellness plan for you and your partner? Your wellness journey would consist of massage therapy, healthy eating tips, stress management, and breathing techniques. Every wellness plan is specifically tailored to fit the individual/couple. Call Jonathan Winn, owner of Breathe, at (828)778-7707.

Suggestion 2: Have you ever wanted to have a romantic, gourmet dinner right in the comfort of your own home? Well, make your wishes come true and have a meal prepared and served to you by a local Chef! Contact Leslie Bond, CEO of Beyond Blessed, at 704-421-2331 or email at [email protected]. Chef Bond will work with you to create a special menu.

Suggestion 3: Why stop at having just a romantic dinner prepared. Try something new and hire a musician to come and play while you are having your candlelit dinner! MoJo Muzik Experience offers musicians for hire to play your favorite song list.

You don’t have to stop there! MoJo Muzik Experience is an entity of Essential Chord Progressions, and you could learn to play your lover’s favorite song on the keyboard within an hour with their instant downloadable tutorials. Think it’s impossible? Test yourself! www.essentialchordprogressions.com

For the MoJo Muzik Experience, contact B.Bailey at 980-819-0004 or email [email protected].
